Regardless, The Nation needs Manny and we’re not convinced that he really wants to leave. Six years have passed and we still have not heard these words from Manny’s lips: “I WANT TO BE TRADED!” It’s almost like a sick joke! I ask you, has Theo gone delusional under that hot gorilla suit? It has been unseasonably warm lately... Being Sox fanatics and hardcore baseball fans, you don’t need me to flood you with statistics or plead with you about the importance of Manny’s monstrous bat in the Sox lineup. At the end of the day, the guy is unquestionably a first ballot Hall of Famer, an annual Triple Crown threat, a bona fide All-Star, a perennial MVP candidate, and a former World Series MVP! As we reasoned in this very space last year, trading Manny would only be rivaled by the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees! Haven’t we learned anything from our past mistakes? The Red Sox have the most devastating duo in baseball- a two-headed offensive force that comes along once every decade- unparalleled in today’s game. Is there really a need to break-up that kind of offensive superpower? The worst part about the situation is that last year we passed on Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu because they were deemed too expensive and now we’ve virtually signed a replacement for Trot that goes by the nickname of Nancy Drew! You couldn’t find a more polar opposite guy than DL Drew to replace the original “dirt dog” himself! With Drew on board, it’s imperative that we-KeepManny! An outfield of Coco sandwiched between Wily Mo Strikeout and Softy Drew would be positively disastrous! Every other team in the league is licking their chops, just hoping that the Sox unload our aloof left-fielder. Why? Isn’t it obvious? The move would make us significantly weaker. Everyone knows that we will never get equal value in return for the Silver Slugger. Why does the front office not see this? We’ve come this far- what’s another two years? His contract is actually a bargain after seeing what the likes of Soriano and Gary Mathews recently signed for this offseason. So, I ask YOU to show all the Boston Media who continually attempt to sway the masses against Man-Ram that WE want Manny to stay!
